                                             What is an Ideal Society?

Technology, communication, and society, are the three bounding factors that makeup the idea diffusion theory. Diffusion theory was developed by a professor named Everett Rogers. It is through this theory that I analyze in 2021 to recognize our society communicates differently then our parents, grandparents, and so on might have. I am going to take a look at a closer focus on how video-calling has affected technology, communication and society.

The pictures above describe some of the many app/software that allow you to video call. However, I believe each app has a different purpose. When I think of zoom or skype, I think of more class/business setting environment. When I think of facetime or houseparty, I think more of a social luxury when it comes to video-calling.

Whether you have used facetime, zoom, skype, house party, or any other form of video call, I think we can all say that it has specifically been beneficial within the past year. With the pandemic over the past year, there were definitely some pros and con. Video calling was a backbone for many business across the world.

In 2020, around 78% of corporate companies use video calling software. Although I'm not surprised about this statistic. With video calling for meetings for around the country, there was a common phrase called zoom burnout which could apply to any digital video software, specifically used for work. Zoom burnout is a study that showed higher fatigued while using these softwares. Yet, is it that specific software or is it computer vision syndrome which contributes to the burnout? Computer vision syndrome is the idea of physical/emotional exhaustion followed by detachment and lack of enthusiasm to get stuff done. Many people within the United States had to resort in finishing their schooling on a computer or adults changing their work routine in the comfort of their homes. In my opinion, I believe that depending on the software there are pros and cons to a certain software. For example, many people had to quarantine and weren't able to see their family and friends. With apps like houseparty, facetime, and sometimes even zoom and skype it allowed people to connect for virtual get togethers randomly or even special occasions. Cons were that sometimes so many people would be using a software it might be susceptible for it to crash. While many business used online software, it allowed co-workers to get to learn more about each other by their backdrop when their camera was on. However, it might've even distracted some co-workers depending on what the background was.

In all, not only was video-calling effective for many people. It flows right in with the diffusion theory. It affected society and solved many solutions in the dire time of need throughout the pandemic while allowing us to communicate through the technological softwares.
